Pineapple (Crownless)

Country of origin:  Costa Rica/Ivory Coast  Weight:  each

Facts: When Christopher Columbus first brought the pineapple back to Queen Isabella of Spain in 1492 from Guadeloupe, no-one had ever seen anything like it!  The Spanish thought the fruit resembled a pine cone, and first named it “Pine of the Indies”.  The English called it an apple because of its tasty fruits, so the name then came together.  It only used to be used by the wealthy to adorn their dining tables – how things have changed!

SKU Pineapple Category Tag

Description

Storage:  In the fridge in a perforated plastic bag.

Preparation and cooking: Cut off the base and top.  Slice off the skin in a downward vertical motion, following the curve of the fruit.  You can then slice the pineapple and cut it into chunks, but do not use the central core as it is tough and fibrous.  Pineapple upside-down cake anyone?  The juice is great as well.
